Ironically, the only time i've ever seen JJ shine was his true freshman year. Watching him laugh it up on the sidelines after screw ups last season because he knew there was no threat to his position wasn't exactly a sign of maturity. It just goes to show that Pete Carroll's (sorry i had to go there) philosophy of competition really brings out the best in players. That and ofcourse promising all true freshman realistic chances of starting if they outperform their counterparts and then actually going through with it starting true freshman season after season really had a huge affect on their recruiting. I wish we would become this aggressive.
