Doesn't TCU have attendance problems?

I don't think so...current capacity is around 40,000 and will remain so after the renovations...most TCU people are complaining that they need more seats.

Before last season, the average attendance was roughly 30,000 for a 44,000 seat stadium. Keep in mind that the school is small - fewer than 10,000 students. The new stadium will have the ability to expand to 50,000, but I'm sure that will only be on rare occasions. It's not unlike the UH renovation plans for Robertson.

It only took a few years in the same conference, winning regularly and finishing those seasons ranked, a "grass roots" marketing campaign... to get Fort Worth on the bandwagon and consider TCU their "home team" for alumni and non-alumni alike.

I think this year will be a pretty good indicator of what to expect for future attendance...

They must be campaigning for the Big 12.

Awwww.... What's the matter?

You don't like the fact that when you stand up you feel like you're going to fall on your face?

(old photo... Note the C-USA on the field)

FWIW - That's going to wipe TCU out of the record books twice:

- Steepest angle grandstand of any football stadium in the United States (NCAA or Pro)

- Pressbox altitude - highest distance from the ground in NCAA.

FWIW I've been in the stadium a few times recently and it has the old Tulane Stadium feel from the early 70's, but nowhere near the capacity. My first impression on walking in was, I'd either like to see a game here or it's a glorified Texas high school stadium. My opinion after the 3rd or 4th visit was it's a small scale of what Tulane Stadium was.

I can see where the visitor/student section side of AGC could give one that impression...

Same with parts of the exterior due to Art-Deco features...

Beyond that - I don't really see the similarity.

FWIW - Yes. I can see where there would be a capacity difference.

Yeah, they need more seats

Here is the attendance the last 2 years at a stadium that has a seating capacity of 44,008:

2009

35,249 vs Texas State
37,130 vs SMU
31,156 vs Colorado State
33,541 vs UNLV
50,307 vs Utah
41,738 vs New Mexico

2008

27,074 vs Stephen F. Austin
25,531 vs Stanford
30,620 vs San Diego State
36,180 vs BYU
30,103 vs Wyoming
32,823 vs Air Force

So during a span of 2 years, when their team went 23-3, (including 12-0 at home), they had an average of 9,720 empty seats a game

Wow I didnt realize either of those facts.

I'm looking forward to a great season this year. I hopefully will make 2-3 home games.

You must understand, DFW is not a college sports market. There is excitement for the frogs but outside of Ft. Worth, it is very minimal.

Agreed. SMU can't fill their stadium either (and it's capacity is a little above 30K...nice little stadium btw).

I'd say the "support" is minimal, not the excitement. TCU has become the the underdog that a lot of people consider one of their "other" teams (2nd favorite or whatnot).

The the success of the baseball team and its CWS showing has helped with this momentum.
