I don't think Emmitt was the best running back ever, but I think he was the best-used running back ever. They really got the most out of that guy. Solid back made legendary with a great team and good coaching.
Here's my list of best ever:
1. Barry Sanders
2. Walter Payton
3. Jim Brown
4. Earl Campbell
5. Eric Dickerson
6. Emmitt Smith
7. O.J. Simpson
8. Ladanian Tomlinson
9. Tony Dorsett
10. Gale Sayers
Marshall Faulk is right there, too.

Sayers is #5 at worst.I would put OJ ahead of Dickerson.

I'd have to put him behind Barry Sanders for sure.
Here's my question. Was Emmitt better than Bo Jackson. I know Bo got injured and had a shorter carreer, but he was awesome when he played.
