I don't. Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Jim Brown and Earl Campbell are just a few who come to mind that are as good or better. Barry Sanders is best ever in my opinion because he could have gotten 18K yards if he wanted to continue to play. He played on average (at best) teams compared to Emmitts Dallas squad. What you say?

not just no but hell no.

Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Earl Campbell all better than him and I'm not so sure OJ and Eric aren't either.

Emmit was great, but also behind a fantastic offensive line and almost NEVER injured. I know injuries play a huge part in careers, but if you're going for RB GOAT, I think you have to take their peaks into account too.

He doesn't get my vote. I'd take Barry Sanders or Walter Payton or Earl Cambell over him anyday.

For my money I'll take Emmitt. dude could do it all. He wasn't the fastest, yet you constantly saw him breaking long touchdown runs, wasn't the strongest, yet you saw him always fall forward for the extra yard. Wasn't the shiftiest but nobody seemed to get a clean shot on him very often. He rarely fumbled or missed a game to injury. He played hurt and played in BEAST MODE. Did it for a long time. Did it when it counted and was a WINNER.

Is he the best running back ever. No. Is he one of the greatest running backs in the history of football, YES. He deserves his spot in the HOF and if you disagree you are not that bright.

Bill Parcells once said "in the NFL you are what your record says you are". There may have been better pure runners than Emmitt but for whatever reasons they didn't have the careers that he had. Whether it be physical or mental toughness...maybe competitiveness or lack there of...there was some reason that they didn't last. If you put away any bias of being a Dallas Cowboy hater and look at what he accomplished at the very highest level I don't see how anyone can say that Emmitt wasn't the best.

Why do so many people have to shite on the man's accomplishments? You realize that a player doesn't have to be the "best ever" player to be in the HOF...

Emmitt ran behind Moose and a freakin great Dallas OLine, and he was so short he disappeared a lot. That's his story, good back, but not even in my top 5.

1. Sanders
2. Brown
3. Payton
4. O.J.
5. the underrated Gale Sayers

I haven't bothered reading this thread but my opinion on Emmitt(and I'll just say up front he's my 2nd favorite football player all time(not just RB) and I have him ranked behind Walter Payton as my favorite)....anyway, Emmitt is the biggest overachiever ever. He isn't the best at any particular category that makes a RB "Great", except maybe his durability, toughness and vision. He wasn't the fastest, most explosive, quickest, shiftiest, strongest etc. etc. But he used every tool he had to work for him, he was a great student of the game and had arguably the biggest heart anyone's ever seen.

So based on all the intangibles, IMHO he is one of the top 3 RB's all time. Barry Sanders and a few others that get mentioned in this conversation had a lot of what if's....Emmitt just straight did that shite. No one can take away his accomplishments.
