If Cameron Fordham is grey shirting ( which means you do not practice with the team and go to school part time if I am correct) then why does LSUsports.net have pictures of him at practice today posted? Does that mean he is not grey shirting?

He is a walk on this year.

He's not grayshirting. He's paying his own way and walking-on the team.

he'll walk on, not get get a schollie, and will not play in a game but he can practice with the team, i think.

Thank you for explaining.....

did Duplesis do the same thing last year?
Posted on 8/5/10 at 9:28 pm to cubsgrace
So why he signed a letter of intent if he's going to walk on?

To my understanding his LOI for this class (2010) is void and he will count towards next year (2011). Because he is a walk on he can practice beaucse he is paying his own way. If not he would have to wait until January and either go part time or not enroll until January.

how is it void? If he wanted to leave he would need a release like Elliot. Why doesnt Elliot just walk on as well?
Posted on 8/5/10 at 9:37 pm to seinfeldtiger
Because he either can't or won't pay his own way.

Personally I don't understand how any in-state kid couldn't pay his own way for one semester. Anyone is eligible for direct loans and many could also get pell grant money. You don't have to be rich to get through 1 semester of paying for school.

For the record:
"The term redshirt freshman indicates an academic sophomore (second-year student) who is in the first season of athletic eligibility. A redshirt freshman is distinguished from a true freshman as one who has practiced with the team for the prior season. The term "redshirt sophomore" is also commonly used to indicate an academic junior (third-year student) who is in the second season of athletic eligibility. After the sophomore year the term redshirt is rarely used; instead, the terms "fourth year junior" and "fifth year senior" are more common.
Athletes may also utilize a grayshirt year in which they attend school, but cannot enroll as a full-time student and do not receive a scholarship for that year. This means that they are an unofficial member of the team and do not participate in practices, games, or receive financial assistance from their athletic department. Typically, grayshirts occur when a player is injured right before college and requires an entire year to recuperate. Rather than waste his redshirt, the player can attend school as a part-time regular student and then join the team later."
Hope that helps explain this mess.

Fordham sees LSU as a great place to be, and he'll make it happen no matter what. He's not letting it stop him because it didn't look like what he thought it would.
Elliot has his feelings hurt. If he really wants to be a Tiger, I hope he will do what it takes to make it happen. If he does, I suspect the coaches will bend over backwards to develop him and give him special attention to help him succeed. Miles is a classy guy. If he wants to go elsewhere, God Bless him, and I wish him well. But I think he really wants to be a Tiger and be close to home. If he chooses, he can be the spotlight to focus others on how great it is to be at LSU.

Was he being recruited by Kiffin or Dooley? Also, UT has 26 signed LOIs and one pending. I don't know how many have qualified. They may have their own problems getting down to 25.

Dooley probably recruited him when he was at LA Tech. I'm pretty sure UT's recruiting coordinator went to/used to coach at Shaw

UT is in pretty much the same boat as we are as to the numbers. All that shite Vol fans were giving us and they over-signed, too.

Fordham will play as a walk-on and not count as a scholarship in the 25 or 85. He will start his 5 to play 4 clock however.
I think its pathetic that some people are trying to act like Porter doesn't have love for LSU because he hasn't accepted the gray-shirt or been willing to pay his own way.
The kid had a scholarship offer and had it pulled and has no guarantee it will be given to him in January (no matter what Miles told him). He likely feels betrayed and not trusting of the staff, right or wrong. Why should the kid take out a loan to play for a school that just dropped him like they did?
