Most vampire films have a love story plot stuck in them so trying to elevate this to more than a vampire film is exactly the fanwank over hype I don't get.
Every single aspect of the film revolves around her/him probably trying to find a replacement companion or trying to find blood. There are other things going on but at the heart it is a vampire film.

It's not a love story. It's meant to look like a love story, but it is a story of predatory manipulation. The act of love was the one made by the girl in the hospital.
