This is an exaggeration. I took a big time shot in the head once. The shooter was inside the penalty spot and I was covering for the goalie. I blocked the shot with my forehead and was just knocked over (thrown back into the net). After bouncing off my head it landed 40 yards downfield (so it was NOT a soft shot). I wasn't hurt by it and didn't leave the game (in fact I was pumped because I had just stolen a goal).
Now if you take it in the nose... that'll be a bloody mess.
