The current ban relates to deepwater drilling of new wells and wells currently being drilled. I am pretty sure production is continuing uninterrupted for deep water wells already in operation. Therefore, the current effect is nonexistant. The question is oil companies moving operations currently underway for new deepwater wells (which is significant) to other locations and countries.
