It really wouldn't be a bad idea. Bring in TCU (which should have been in instead of Baylor anyway) and maybe BYU and keep it at 12 teams. Both of those additions bring as much name and prestige as Colorado had. The conference would take a bit of a hit in losing Nebraska, but would remain viable and certainly would not lose its BCS bid. Or maybe even bringing in Colorado State would be an option. They probably have a fan base similar to Colorado in the same market, so that would ease the pain of the loss of CU. Add Air Force for a national following and have a pretty good 14-team arrangement. I think there are lots of good options for keeping the Big XII (or Big XIV) alive.

But I wonder, if the Big XII went to 14 teams and renamed itself the Big XIV, would they sell the rights to the Big XII (or Big 12) name to the formerly 11-team but now 12-team Big Ten?

This is were OU needs to step in and say f*uck you Texas, if you are trying to save the Big 12 and now don't want the Pac-10 (from what I've gathered most OU fans are cool with the Pac-10), then we'll go to the SEC with A&M..At this point, Texas would be out of options and have to go to Pac-10..

Nothing good would come from saving the Big 12.

If you guys fold to UT like that.....probably wouldn't make it in the SEC any way.

The SEC should tell A&M its now or never. If you want in come now, don't come asking to join when that confrence goes belly up because that option is gone.

Hung,

Our admin seems to have gotten a substantial chunk of cash out of this renegotiation, so, from that aspect they appear to have been successful in what they set out to do, so I am not sure there was any "caving" to anyone.

From a football fans perspective, I would have rather gone to the Pac-16 than stay in this big 12.

The Big 12 lite will last no more than ten years, if it makes it that long, IMO. At that point, all parties involved in that league are screwed.

SEC means stability and kick arse football. I do not like this one bit.

I stopped right here, in reading the espn.com article on the "saving of the Big-12".

For those of you just now joining us, the Big XII lives...Chip Brown's facebook and twitter confirm.

I'll believe it when I see it on more than just OrangeBloods.com

Salty, as much as I would love to have A&M in the SEC, this might be working out for the best for college football if the Big 12 can survive and even thrive in some form for the sake of inter-regional competition. If the Big 12 is salvaged, the Aggies deserve a lot of credit for bucking the PAC 16 wave and hopefully saving the day. I don't think anyone but the Left coast crowd would want to see a mega-conference dominating the college landscape.

Don't go to espn.

They use Chip as a source.

I don't completely disagree with you, and, if this does go down, then our AD was able to negotiate some very good things for our university. I would just be extremely disapponted as a football fan. Just being selfish I suppose, I really dig SEC football and want to be a part of it.

Why do people keep saying this? From 1985-1995, the period before the SWC collpased, TCU had two winning seasons and never won more than 7 games. they were in hot water with the NCAA as well.

During the same period, Baylor only had one losing season. they won 8 games three different times and managed to not go on probation. Baylor was CLEARLY the better football team, with a more powerful alumni and less NCAA headaches in 1995.

The lesson here: a team's current quality is no guarrantee of future success. Also, getting left out of the Big 12 was the best thing that could have happened to TCU, as they built their program in a much easier conference while Baylor got slapped around by newly resurgent Tech, Texas, A&M, and the Oklahoma schools.

I thought the same thing.

I say we tell aTm we welcome them at any time - except that we want to bring another team with them and that while we may have that other team lined up now, they may not be available in the future.

UH should've made it in over BU. They were just a few years removed from being a top 5 football team and having a Heisman winner. They were less than a decade removed from playing in the basketball NCG. They weren't that long removed from winning multiple golf and track and field NCs.
