I think Dean and Gibbs are leaders, but they were not vocal. I think they tried to lead by example, but I think a great team always needs at least one guy who is an emotional guy who can also lead by example (Coleman). I thought Ranaudo fit this profile, but it's hard to be a leader when you are hurt for most of the year, and then you come back giving up 9 runs a game. How can you tell your team to do a better job, when you are not doing one yourself?

I always thought Mahtook has the makings of a great leader, but if he has personal issues, i can see where that can make it hard too. Hopefully next year we have some guys who can step up on and off the field.

Not to mention Mahtook was still a sophomore, I think he'll be more of a leader next year.

I can go along with most of that.

I do see Mahtook having the potential to fill the leadership role. I think he has the capability of getting in people's butts sideways if they're not doing their job.
