LSUDadOK to answer your question. They do have a formula that is used in spills. Depth of oil X area X (Some factor)= bbls. in the spill area.

I've (you’ve) seen this used before and is very close to the spill amount.
So, your formulas are exact ; it is just what your government uses fool. I worked and had to report a spill or two; give us a run down on your experiences in reporting the many spills that you were involved in because you probably couldn’t operate without gulf waters being polluted on a regular basis? Or, you don’t know sh*t about what you are guess-tamations are all about when it comes to oil slicks? That is their formula and you think it is close to the spill amount?......
