How do you find out how old a house is in BR?

According to MLS listing on a house I'm about to buy, it says it was built in 2000. After going through inspection, I have a reason to believe it was built in 1998.
1. Where do I go to officially find out how old the house is?
2. Would this be a legit reason for me to lower my offer?

1. Mortgage and conveyance records in the basement of the courthouse.
2. No. What difference would it make unless there is a defect with the title?
What makes you think this?

Toilet tank lid?
I bought my house last year. I asked the listing agent how old the house was and she gave some rang of 30-45 years. While doing the walk through portion of the home inspection I asked the home inspector if he could tell me how old the house was. He walked straight to the toilet and pulled the tank lid.

Unless of course if the bathroom was remodeled.

I don't think two years makes a difference.

We found out how old it is because the AC and heater were from 1998. I called the assessor's office this morning, got transferred about 5x, then was able to confirm it was indeed built in 1998.
Thanks for the input everyone.
