Pro Scouts take on Gibbs and Landry

• I asked a contact of mine who is working for an agent after scouting for an AL team for several years if he had seen Micah Gibbs this spring enough to come to any conclusions about him, particularly as a bat. "He's a decent athlete who can throw some, hit some and isn't a bad receiver," he said. "But he may be drafted higher than his tools suggest he should because he's got a legit reputation for being good with pitchers." It's tough to justify draft a kid in the first round based on that sort of evaluation but Gibbs also brings versatility -- he's a switch hitter -- and a strong work ethic to the field every day. "He's a first-day guy, I think, but I'm not sure we're talking all-star."

• The same evaluator on Gibbs' teammate Leon Landry: "He can run, is very strong and his swing is compact, but he's not a center fielder." If that is the case, Landry probably doesn't go in round one and may have problems getting taken off the board in the Top 50. A club that believes he can play center could pop him in the second half of the first, though.
