I would have to say no to dweyer. The three other mentioned are better. I would like to see that Penn State de / dt taken first. I like what I have seen on him. After that let the saints go nutz. Give us trolls here something to talk about

If we are going with Hamilton as the #2 RB he will have to do a BELL and lose 15 lbs over the summer.

There are like 10 similar big backs in this draft. I'd rather go defense early and grab a big RB in the 3rd or later.

I don't know the exact amount but there are several I know of so I think defense in the first two rounds and a rb in the 3rd at the earliest.

yeah not saying they're all on equal footing or the same exact back but there are a shite ton of guys who could fill the Bell role, some of which would have to be around by say the 4th.

In no order:

Dwyer
Tate
Dixon
Hardesty
Gerhart
Scott
Blount
etc

Hardesty I like. 2nd on my list next to Gerhart. He runs tough. The Florida game they knew he was the offense and they still had trouble stopping him

I would be happier with a 3rd or later RB addition. RBs grow on trees in the NFL. They fall to the ground and rot fast too.

good value to me-

@ #95- Dixon or Hardesty
@ #130- Tate
@ #201 or 239- Blount, Scott,

Andre Dixon UConn could fit the mold but I don't have him pegged yet

Why even consider a RB in the draft at all? Bell's contribution didn't amount to much in the second half of the season. Why not just wait until after all the teams do the final cut and pick up a big back for short yardage situations if Hamilton can't cut it?

first half or second half it's still 37% of the RB workload of last year- so more than just a short yardage specialist IMO. Reggie has surely proved it and PT has yet to show the ability to get through the whole year carrying a heavier load. Hamilton looks okay but has only 35 career carries. His MO out of college was heavy injury proned-ness which he has yet to dis spell. The RB by committee approach not only benefited the Saints last year but is a strong overall trend in the NFL. The key for RBBC though is that you have to have the committee members. Drafting one is not imperative but addition is. We went through some decent PS RBs last year and equal quality might be found that way. Great value + need makes draft selections a lot easier.

Frankly, the draft this year is incredibly deep at RB.

Wait till the 3rd.

The last time we wasted a draft pick on a RB (Pittman)he got beat out by an undrafted FA(Pierre). Just saying.

I wouldn't even draft one. Every year there are RBs that go undrafted that are decent prospects, and if injuries pile up you can always find someone to come in for a few games. With so many holes on defense it would be a very bad idea spending an early pick on a guy who will get maybe 5 carries a game and whose production you can come close to matching with Hamilton.

I'm not an LSU freak (o.k. I am), but we could pick up Charles Scott in the 5th and have that 230lbs back..he's making good improvement off the injured shoulder(17 REPS)..but is flying under the radar b'c of it (was a proj 2nd/3rd rounder last year) and I think he'll be hungry...

I agree and he is on the Saints radar. He was pojected as a top back before the injury for his senior year! He was better at LSU than Adai!!!
Ranked 13th rb in this draft 3rd or 4th round good money pick.

Because shot yardage backs are few, and won't be around after the draft. Look at San Diego LT gone and let go another back kept Hester who is great on short yardage.

We won't be drafting a "short-yardage back." If we draft anyone, it will be an every-down back to serve as PT's primary backup. Hamilton is a solid short-yardage back -- that's why he's on the team. When PT was hurt this season, Mike Bell carried the load, and that's what we will look for in a running back, whether it's in the draft or in free agency.

Personally, I do think the Saints will draft a RB in the third round or later. If PT goes down, then I'm not really happy with using Bush or Hamilton on an every-down basis.

I am all about spending a late pick on Blount.

I think the guy matured a lot after the Boise incident. Plus the guy is an absolute bruiser and we know he can play mean.

No way should this team spend a pick on a RB before the 4th. DT, DE, OLB, or S only if value is available at those three picks.
