THIS

I sure enjoy reading some posts that understand WHY our option is not successful. It has little or nothing to do with what side it is run. We do NOT execute.

Anyone that mentions "short side" as a problem is cool though, it makes it easy to spot the ones to disregard in matters football related.
The point is we keep running it to the short side and it does not work. They don't fix the problem and they keep running it. But they won't run plays that do work, like the option play they ran with Perrilloux, Holliday and Keiland vs Florida in '07.

That is a major part of the problem, RP was a good option QB.

Not a slam at all on JJ or JL...but neither are.

And it is not especially effective when we run it wide.

The point is, why the option?

The option is called on "check with me" plays where Crowton doesn't see anything to exploit. The offense is on the field, lined up, and he has about 8 seconds to make a call. If he doesn't see something he can take advantage of, he calls the option, and it usually gets a couple of yards. I don't like it, at all, but it's not like he's trying to run an option-based offense.
