There's nothing that can be said for the anti-Miles crowd.

But for those who are level-headed, this is a remarkably well-thought out decision. Both on the part of Miles and on the part of Shepard.

Shepard is about Brees' height (maybe an inch taller). Yes, Brees made in the League but Brees' accuracy is lethal. Now, admittedly, I only have HS film, the Under Armour game and practice reports to go on, but my understanding is that Shepard is not the purest passer. Could he be Pat White--probably. But Drew Brees, no.

OK, so you are 6-0 (maybe 6-1) and weigh about 195-205. You are lightning fast and electrifying in the open field. And your ultimate goal is to be an NFL player. Your best options are WR and CB.

We don't need more depth there and Shep is too good with the ball in his hands.

So the Percy Harvin role is perfect for Shep. LSU brought in Harvin's college coach. It's all set up. Shep will be the slot receiver and occasionally line up in the backfield as a RB or wildcat QB.

This is precisely how he should be used and two years of this and he will be a first round pick in the NFL Draft--particularly if Harvin and DeSean Jackson and others continue to have success.

Win for LSU. Win for Shepard.

OK, back to bitching about Miles.

watching JJ as QB or reading the same lame responses of people trying to defend him at being a QB.

And I'm tired of people bashing him beyond reason. He had his weaknesses, but he was essentially playing at the same level as Matt Flynn did in 2007. Difference was that he had no running game and no o-line, unlike Flynn who had both of those in 2007. JJ pretty much was the offense this past season.

And no, I do not hate Flynn. The main thing I would change about JJ is his throwing motion, and that probably won't happen cuz we have no QB coach.

The most annoying this is ya'll saying Shep should start at qb. He shouldn't and that is the end of story.
Nugget - I agree with you 100% nor have I ever proclaimed the kid should start. The one thing I do know is that since Les and Crowtons arrival our QB play has dramtically fallen and I have no cofidence that it will improve under the two arse clowns leadership.

Wait, people are bitching because Shepard is going to be on the field more?

Imagine that.

I surely hope Shep is on the field every offensive play, I am not bitching about Shep, I believe the kids greatest assest is playing reciever and lining up in the backfield. The guy runs tough (howed promise at year end) and superb vision.
I love all the players at LSU and support them in their roles it's unfortunate that they are not getting the support to develop.

Shep should switch positions if he wants a realistic chance to play in the NFL. Trust that the coaches will find a way to involve him in an entire game somewhere on the field. Shep is a great person and will do what is asked to help this team win.

So what is the original source? A TD thread?

This is the part of our program in which someone with 50,000 posts gets to use their beloved "germans" line. However, after scanning three pages of this thread, no one has done it (the message-board equiv. of the "Miracle on Ice"). So...Miles, in a post-NSD Q&A that ran in the Advocate and several other sites (including LSUsports.net and TD.com), said he wanted to use RS in a P. Harvin-type role in 2010. (Miles, lamenting that Shepard didn't get enough playing time, said he would also be in the mix at RB.) In a separate interview that week, Crowden said the same thing.

I guess RS just isn't smart enough to be a QB, but he'll have to know what route everyone else is running and how to adjust his own route based on coverage and the checks at the LOS.

It's not that he isn't smart enough. He is just better suited for other positions.

Exactly. And what you just described is not a player who is a "Wide Receiver". There's nothing "wide" or "receiver" about that description. That was the argument I was having, not that he would never catch a pass as an LSU player, but that the description of WR as his position is not truly indicative of what he does on the playing field. A better description would be 'slot back' or "Wild Tiger back'.

Will Les let him on the field this yr. at any position??? One more yr. of riding the pine, he maybe thinking of transferring. Hope not but he has wasted a lot of talent since he has been at LSU.
