I happened to watch a documentary about the old AFL.
I couldn't believe that NO MENTION of the original N01 pick of BOTH leagues signing with the Houston Oilers as the Heisman Trophy winner.

They spent a lot of time showing "Broadway" Joe Namath, where he played in college, his panty hose commercials, his white fur coat, his white cleats, his late night bar hopping, yada, yada.

you missed the one that had alot about Cannon in it then.

The thing that I found most interesting was how people who were around the AFL in the early 60's credited Cannon with being "the man" with the early AFL stuff. Viewers from around the country were "familiar" with Billy Cannon and helped the AFL gain viewers/fans and credibility. His signing with Houston was the AFL's first big "get" and he did get alot of credit for it in the first AFL special that aired on Showtime.

I doubt if there has been another LSU football player that had his name recognition nationally like Cannon. remember this was way before espn and such, yet kids from around the country KNEW who Billy Cannon was and followed him to the AFL as fans
