Congo.
Crichton has had a number of his great books made into sub-par movies. To the contrary, No Country For Old Men is a book that was followed almost to the letter (especially with the dialogue) when adapted into a film.

Gatsby. Assume you're talking about the Redford version. Yeah. Good call. It sucked.
Congo sucked as well but that book... good? Well, a beach reader maybe.

The BBC Hitchhiker's Guide was better than the theatrical version, which did kinda suck.

Hitchhikers sucks hard
not a great book, but I found it entertaining was The Da Vinci Code.
The movie however was completely terrible. I don't see how anyone, who did not read the book first, could have possibly understood it. They skipped over, and left out so much pertinent info it was crazy

Da Vinci code movie was bad. That's why I didn't bother seeing Angels & Demons after reading it.
I also read Seabiscuit. Turned movie off cause it was slow and chronologically out of place with book. Everyone I know liked the movie, but after reading the book, I was disappointed since I was looking so forward to watching movie as I was reading book.

The Sum of All Fears - decent novel by Clancy, but totally ruined by PC movie.

#2 would be The Da Vinci Code.

Right author, wrong book. Sphere was a better a book and a worse movie than Congo.

I like this movie. I've never read the book, but this movie is definitely a guilty pleasure movie.
