Bingo. The catch 22 is that the tenured faculty have contracts which state that they aren't required more than a certain # of classes (I believe it's one per semester; I could be wrong). Most of them will agree to teach more in light of this situation, but theoretically they could say no and there wouldn't be a damn thing the university could do.
