Professors bring in millions of dollars in research grants. LSU is a great school on the rise academically and its professors will be brining in millions more in the coming years. The potential for dollars earned in the research and academic world blow football money out of the water at big time academic institutions. Research expenditures nation wide been on the rise during the economic downturn. Four universities this year earned over a billion dollars in research for the first time in history.

Too see LSU take a step back like this is a big deal in the short term. As the state gets its budget back things should turn around. But you need professors to bring in grant money.

I have no sympathy for anyone in academia. And this isn't geeks vs jocks. There are way too many professors and instructors pushing an agenda these days. They are overpaid as it is.

The school and the tax payer play little to no part of the coaches salary. It all comes from both the program's revenues as well as private donations. the fact is 93K people pay 504 a head to watch the Tigers play ball. If the programs wants to use self generated money to pay the coaches that is their right.
