I think that one thing that people overlook about Miles is that he is pretty stable. He has made quick and strong coaching moves every time an opening has come up. He can make some hires.

When you get to this point in the process the applicant pool shrinks considerably.
Saban did not do LSU any favors when he waited till Christmas to accept the NFL job. He eliminated several coaches up to that point.
Ideally, you fire a coach right after the season and hire another one.
When coaches leave though for another job like Carroll and Saban, I think that's the best time to promote from within. LSU should've hired Muschamp or Fisher in that situation.
