Drew Brees and his mother have had a volatile relationship for years. In 2006, Brees asked his mother to stop using his image in television commercials for her candidacy of a Texas appeals court seat. Prior to this, Brees called his relationship with his mother "nonexistent" after a falling out due to his refusal of her attempt at becoming his agent

Sounds reasonable. Shame too. Lost my mother two years ago suddenly and I always remember what she'd tell me from time to time, "you only get one mother". And it's true. I'm sure DB has some regret that he and his mother were estranged. Her demise was an ugly one on top of that.
