Very seldom to very successful athletes make successful coaches. It seems they can't understand that what they could do so well , other atletes can't do as well. Either the coach was an incredible athlete and everything came easily or were ultra dedicated and the present athlete will seldom be as dedicated.
Examples are Norm Van Brocklin, Otto Graham, Tom Fears, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg (at least HE made a Super Bowl, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas. Among the few successes are Tom Heinsohn, Joe Torre, Yogi Berra and Mike Ditka (debatable how good a coach he was).

mike ditka not a good coach? i disagree with that...i dont know what happened when he came here. jury still out on singletary....i hope he's successful. tony dungy ring a bell? also sean payton for the bears....think he,s a good coach?
