I think he will absolutely be a successful head coach one day. Possesses the fire to motivate, the knowledge of the game, and is respected by his peers.

What say you?

Do highly successful QB's with long careers ever go into coaching?

Very seldom to very successful athletes make successful coaches. It seems they can't understand that what they could do so well , other atletes can't do as well. Either the coach was an incredible athlete and everything came easily or were ultra dedicated and the present athlete will seldom be as dedicated.

Examples are Norm Van Brocklin, Otto Graham, Tom Fears, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg (at least HE made a Super Bowl, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas. Among the few successes are Tom Heinsohn, Joe Torre, Yogi Berra and Mike Ditka (debatable how good a coach he was).

I doubt it. Mediocre athletes who tried like hell to be good normally make the best coaches. Exceptional athletes wind up in the broadcast booth.

IMHO - Drew Brees already is a Head Coach (on the field)! I'm not saying that he is the best ever but he possesses leadership skills, the ability to motivate by his actions more so that his words, the maturity to make everyone around him better, the savvy to be accountable to his team, his coaches and the fans, the humility to always look to improve his game rather than to point fingers at those that do not perform to his level, and the work ethic to be the first way in and the last one out. He is not a primadonna, he is a leader. No matter what profession his chooses, he will be successful because of his character.
