The media knew hoe the members would vote yesterday.

Evidently Meastri said today that if the board voted for the plan to move to DIII that he wants his name removed from the baseball field.

What a POS. Guess I will bring a ladder out there next I am at the lakefront

It was posted on this very forum yesterday.

Cowen tried to pull that back in 2003, and there was an uprising that stopped it.

There are things in the works that will prevent it from happening again, but it goes without saying that Tulane and UNO are two very different situations.

agreed.

Why have any athletics then if your going to Div III

Does any other university, with a major metropolitan city in it's name play Div III sports?

I ALMOST agree with Ryan's plan that all public universities in the state drop down to D III (except LSU) ..

It is hard to argue the economics of it.

Nope just a memeber of the University of Texas System (just like UTSA, UTA, UT PAN AM, ETC.). Just like UNO is to the LSU system.

eta: UTD also has close to 15,000 students.

ehhh. Almost I guess. Problem is why have athletics at all than?

I think you could make a argument for ULL, La Tech and LSU to be the only three public D-I schools in the state.

Temoc is the name of the official mascot of the sports teams of the University of Texas at Dallas, known as the Comets

So this is what UNO is going to become?

Does UNO have any kind of history of athletic success to make people give a shite?

some NCAA tourney appearances, College World Series before any other state school I think.

There is some there, not a LSU or Tulane situation obviously but it concerns me there won't be a Div I public university with the amount of NCAA events the city of New Orleans generally host.

You do know that UNO has generally been the "host" school for the Final Fours etc that are played in NOLA

University of Chicago, but the similarites between UC and UNO end at the naming configuration.

The University of Detroit Mercy has also been a host school. What's the significance?

Seems D II would be sufficient. Too bad, espescially for baseball who was in the tourny in 2008.
