Les Miles = Jimmy Johnson

Jimmy Johnson is considered a pretty good coach, is he not? Let's check out the similarities. Both started off at Oklahoma State. Miles actually had a better record at OSU. Both have one national championship. Both have one 12 win season, two 11 win seasons, after the bowl win both will have one 10 win season, and both have one 8 win season in the five years both either have been or were at their school. Les Miles is 4-0 in bowl games, Jimmy Johnson is 2-3. Other than their bowl record, everything else is just about the same.
People like to make the connection of Les Miles to Larry Coker, but I think a better connection can be made to a different former Miami coach.

Doesnt Jimmy also have a Super Bowl ring?

People run down Les Miles for a few basic things:
-Tangled up/unintelligible phraseology. There's no way he has a broadcast career after coaching like Jimmy Johnson. However, this doesn't mean he isn't a great coach, as people say the public speaking fumbles are not the same in one-on-one.
-Game/Time management issues. He showed in the Arkansas game he can fix this. However, many marvel that it had to be fixed this far into his career. This is a legitimate concern.
If he corrects the offensive scheme and disfunction of this past season, and the team matures with experience and capability, then I think people will think that he is more like Johnson than Coker. However, another few episodes like Ole Miss, and they'll be issuing him a straightjacket and running him out of town on a rail.

Johnson's 8-win season was his first season. He then had a two-loss season, two one-loss seasons, and an undefeated season. He played in back-to-back national championship games, losing one.

When somebody compares Miles to Coker, it is a red flag that they don't know what they are talking about.

I know JJ pretty well and, I'm sorry, I have never heard about Miles working 24/7 and so dedicated to winning his wife left him.
I would say Saban is more like JJ than LM is.
Miles is a much more normal person than either one.

College teams didn't play 12 game schedules when Jimmy Johnson coached at the U.

Thanks for the laugh. These are some similar comparison
Aaron Brooks = Drew Brees

Bottom line on Les Miles is that until he's gone some will hate him, some will love him, most will be iffy. Once he's gone, his legacy will (like Saban) be defined by what the guy after him does. I guess that's what keeps sports boards like this running though.
