I am so sick of hearing this. If you're a "die hard fan" and always have been, why do you care if others want to be fans? Do we need to pay membership fees and carry around little membership cards to give a "Who Dat" or "Geaux Saints"? I can't stand it when people throw out hasty comments towards those rooting on the Saints just because they can't recall them rooting them on a few years ago. Fan bases are open. You can become a fan of whatever you want, whenever you want without having to answer to anyone. So get off your high horse and be excited that you have all these new friends to cheer on the Saints with. We could be like one of those other teams that have a good season and still can't fill a stadium, but we're not. Besides, one these "new fans" may score tickets to the Super Bowl even though you've been to every game in the Dome since you were 8. And you might want to be their friends then. So stop being assholes now and enjoy it while you can.

I think it has more to do with the same people saying "my Saints" or "our Saints" are the same ones shitting on the city any chance they get. I spend a lot of time in hotels around Baton Rouge and I find it hilarious that the local news channels up here are now reporting on the Saints like it's the home town team. Last year you barely heard a word about the Saints after October.

It's the world we live in. Everyone likes the winner. A few years back, I could not give my tickets away. Now, well, you know the story. It doesn't bother me at all.
But it does make me feel just a little bit better when people know that you've been a fan for a while, and the team is going so good. That's a nice feeling.

because nobody respects fairweather fans, just as nobody likes fairweather friends. it's annoying, though we will take all of the fake fans' money with big smiles on our faces.

does that answer your question, poser?

I really don't see why people on here get so pissed at new fans.

Other people becoming bandwagon fans doesn't cause me to lose any sleep. If anything, it helps the New Orleans economy.

It's great if the Saints are picking up new fans, but there is one particular kind of new fan that sort of bothers me. If you've been behind this team for long enough, I'm sure you encountered people who seemed to actually enjoy seeing them fail and mocked those of us who stuck with them. It's something I saw a lot of not that long ago, even in New Orleans. I have some in my own family. As far as I'm concerned, they can go back to hoping the team moves to Los Angeles and shove it.

I guess if they take some kind of blood oath and cleanse their wickedness I'll let it slide.

Being a "new" Saints fan is fine, and of course you can jump off and on the bandwagon as often as you choose. However, the ones who seem to be the most vocal in complaining when the Saints are losing, are the ones who come back as a "Saints fan" only when they are doing well.

I totally agree.

I told my buddy the other night the same thing. I've been a Saints fan my whole life, but it doesn't bother me if someone jumps on the wagon at all.

He's from Atlanta and a Falcons fan. After being at the game with me Monday night, he told me and anyone else who would listen that he is now a Saints fan, the Superdome is far superior to the GA dome in terms of atmosphere, and that Saints fans are the best sports fans in the world. I told him "Welcome aboard".

people are emotionally invested in the team, and get jealous and pretentious when they think 'new' people have come along and gotten similarly emotionally invested. It's almost like they think you are taking something away from them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been a Saints fan.

There just usually isn't much reason to broadcast that fact. Like most other Saints fans, you usually had to pick another team to pull for in January. Saints have always had fans. . .it's just that the fans finally have something to puff their chest out about.

We have had hot starts before, but you always knew they were going to choke. This year, we are clearly the best.

And when Louisianians have a team that's "the best", we can be the most obnoxiously awesome fans in the world.

With most of our 42 years being losers, our fans are some of the most loyal in all sports. Most were around even in losing.

What I can't stand is when other teams' fans automatically assume you're a bandwagoner just because you finally have a reason to be vocal about your favorite team. I mean, I've been a Saints fan since 2003 (jumped into the football scene with the Tigers' title run), but I'm not going to walk up and start some trash-talking round when my preferred team is 7-9. That's just stupid. Now I've got a reason to do so and suddenly I'm a bandwagoner?
