Yes, especially if you have a good TV and watch a lot of movies at home.
ETA: However, if I were you and was looking to get a blu-ray player, I would heavily consider a PS3 first.

I considered that, but I really don't want to start buying video games again.
Is the PS3 a viable alternative to the Wii for little kids?

Any other suggestions on a good one besides PS3? Have been looking to buy one as a Christmas gift and was just wondering which ones were better
