If belowpar is right, and we get a new OC this season, that will mean a new coach on each side of the ball each of the last two seasons. Too much turmoil for recruits and current players. Players need to know that:
1) Les is the boss and
2) he'll continue to be the boss, so quitting on our team will not be tolerated.

Sure, keep the terms of seperation low in case he fails next season, but don't let our players think they'll see another coaching change this time next year.

He get's 4 years added to his contract every year he wins 8 games....

Why not make it 10 wins and get more years. 8 wins get you nothing in college football.....

Please don't drive a car in your current state. Take a nap and have some coffee. Just don't risk getting behind the wheel.

the coordinators typically only sign 3 year deals... Miles has a longer deal than that in place

I fail to see how extending his contract even further would appeal to a coordinator with a 3 year offer

I think you mean 1 year added to the end of a 4 year deal, thus giving him 5 total years.

Both of which were FIRED... Begins to say something about an individual when everyone he hires ends up needing to be fired.

Your reading comprehension skills are as bad as your humor. I never said he deserves an extension. I just don't want to see this team quit next year if/when we lose a game because they think their coach is gone.

Everyone? No, the co-coordinators and now probably GC

Others have moved onwards and upwards - e.g. pellini and now porter

well it is more difficult situation than that. I pretty much think of it as, Pelini left and Miles had a "quick fix" with the dual coordinators, saw it was leaking and fixed it when he had time, i.e. off season the next year. Good idea?? No but hey it happened. Just my 2 cents

Not the strongest argument when he's had 2 guys take head coaching positions in that same timeframe.

Coordinators move often. You're off-base with your reasoning.

edit: Oh and by the way, Pete Carrol still recruiting well last I checked.

Not saying its a strong argument...

Just pointing out the fact that both the offensive and defensive coordinators he hired needed to be fired.... Does not need a contract extension bc he is hiring a new OC.

I also agree that Miles doesn't need an extension. But, you said much more than that when you posted:

That just doesn't hold water.

I do think the original poster stumbled across a valid point in that it may be tough to hire a top notch OC if that guy doesn't see Miles having a stable position.

LSU got their Charlie Mac. They are happy with 8 to 10 wins a yr.

All falls back on him. He is the HC, he is paid millions to run LSU Football just like a business.

Not only is he gonna have a problem with hiring an OC he's gonna have trouble recruiting when EVERY other coach tells a recruit "Hey, do you remember what happened last year with Ole Miss, do you really wanna play for someone that incompetent?"

You'd think recruiting would be affected by the stuff that drives fans nuts but it pretty much just isn't

Orgeron at Ole Miss and Lane at UT did some embarrassing stuff but it had pretty much zero impact on the excellent recruiting classes they landed

The danger for Miles is from the fans if they call for his head... I doubt he has trouble getting a good OC if they replace Crowton... and we've already seen Les is an excellent recruiter
