A vote of confidence for JJ

Because there has been some discussion about the criticism of JJ being racist, I'll identify myself as an old white guy. I think he is doing an outstanding job and has tremendous potential.
Compared to other sophomore QBs in the SEC, he is way ahead of schedule in his development. After all, as most fans will agree LSU's offense has been -- to say the least -- unimaginative. Add to that the running game has been unproductive. Therefore, a greater than normal burden has been placed on this young man's shoulders.
He has, I believe, the second highest passer efficiency rating of any returning SEC qb. His TD to interception ration is excellent. This stuff about him taking too many sacks is just plain dumb. Don't forget the vast majority of times he has been sacked is because the OL didn't do its jot and he had no chance to get rid of the ball.
I spent nearly 25 years as a sportswriter and still have a good many friends in the profession. (Not that that makes me any better judge of talent than any other sports fan.) But, I can tell you outside of Louisiana, most folks recognize that JJ will be one of the top returning qbs in the SEC next year.
Don't put to much stock in those who want to criticize him. I'll bet the majority of them are young folks who think they know a lot more about football than they really do. Most of them probably voted for Obama and will one day wonder why they're having to pay income tax of about 50 percent too.

Nothing to do with racism or any of that shite, jj looked good

Most of my blame goes toward Miles, and all of my blame goes to the coaching staff. I can't blame a 19 year old kid who chose to go to LSU......sorry

JJ is starting to look like a championship QB

Maybe so, for this year's class of QBs in the SEC, but I remember a red-shirted freshman that took the reins in '86 that would run circles around JJ. Hodson was a quarterback that developed in a hurry and did very well. I know that was 23 years ago, but I just don't see JJ as having that kind of leadership ability. Maybe it's just a lack of confidence right now for JJ. He just doesn't have that focused confident look in his eyes. Then again, maybe he'll develop that over time.

Thanks for the football insight, but save the polotics for the other board

Doesn't the fact you have to go back 23 years ago to find someone better tell you something?

He has plenty of potential. THe concern would be why he has not developed more considering his playing time. He rarely looks downfield and usually stares down one receiver.
He needs to seriously watch some tape of Drew Brees and Peyton Manning.
I blame Crowton for the lack of QB development. Blame Miles for leaving us with no QB with experience.
BTW - can RS pass the ball or is his arm broken? Seems like a reasonable call would be to have him take that step forward and the drop back and pass. Another coaching faux pas but just IMHO.

JJ is our qb and should have been way before the end of the season last yr. He has heart and loves LSU. Any one else who thinks diff is an idiot and should actually watch a football game first before they criticize him.

Old white dude here too and I couldn't agree more! The sack comments are stupid. I mean Lee didn't have near as man sacks, only 16 int's. Anyone remember the GA game last year? I say take the sack rather than all those pick 6's. Further, the OL is bad this year.
JJ is making tremendous progress. In two years we are all going to be lamenting the day JJ walks off the field for the final time in Tiger Stadium.

I think Jefferson did pretty well in this, his learning curve season. I for one expected him to have 2 or 3 games where he had to be yanked because of bad performance (due to inexperience, not lack of ability). Well, IMO, he didn't have any such games this season. Some better than others, but no atrocious outings.
I don't think JJ will ever be a Matt Stafford or Colt McCoy, but I think he'll be good enough to help us seriously contend for the SEC West next season. He'll be just fine over the next two seasons.
