No Win Situation

Miles is in a no win situation. If he wins, well, he should have won. We have superior talent, we're higher ranked, we are favored, etc. The best outcome for Miles is neutral.
If we lose, on the other hand, it will all fall at Miles feet. If anything - anything - happens that is reminiscent of the Mississippi Meltdown all hell will break lose. Again.
Weighing heavily against Miles and LSU today is that he must change his entire coaching philosophy. His overriding objective today is DON'T SCREW UP. This is 180 degrees against his characteristic "roll the dice" philosophy. He will be tighter than Dick's hatband, and it will show itself.
Miles is in an impossible situation. He will have to coach completely against his nature and have a perfect outcome. And if he achieves that outcome he will get precious little credit.
He's screwed, and so are we.

It's not really complicated. Miles is making top dollar. He has to produce top results. Not sniffing Atlanta two straight years don't cut it.

True.
But its also true that he has no one else to blame but himself for his situation.

what you are describing is a picture of man in over his head.
The blame rests entirely at his feet.
Coaching staff
Player evaluation
Player development
Game management
Focus
Execution

How is it a no win situation when a win gives job safety?

That's why Miles is paid what he's paid. With all that money comes expectations and accountability, such as it is with any super high level position in life. It comes with the territory. If he doesn't embrace it, then he can go pick up the towels in the locker room, and there isn't much expected there but to just flippin pick up the towels.

I wish I was in a 4 million dollar situation like that.

Sympathy for Les Miles? Look... he might be the nicest guy in the world, but do you understand how obscene $4 million per year is for a job that MOST of us could do, and probably better?

such are the circumstances at a "premier" program

And he did it to himself and all by himself. That lucky horse shoe finally fell out on the ground. Miles has been exposed. The emperor has no clothes.

Maybe Miles should have done his fricking job the last two years and he wouldn't be in this situation.

I don't agree with the no win scenario talk. LSU has won despite Miles' mismanagement, not because of his strategy. His staff has been unprepared in key situations. The expectations are rightfully high, because the players put themselves in a position to win games that were lost by coaching errors and lack of logical adjustments. In light of the need for this off season to be a big recruiting year with 5 offensive and 7 defensive starters leaving, you've got a real future problem in the eyes of the recruits we need to secure. We're not getting the All American lineman recruits anymore. Our depth at defensive back is not good; our depth at running back is not good. We haven't established our fullback yet. We're losing 5 linebackers. We need to convince the high school ballplayers that we know what to do with top talent.

Its not just the results, its the performance. We've looked like a hot, wet mess all year.
