eventually, you'll be proven correct

the chances of him retiring as LSU's head coach after long and prosperous career filled with 9 & 10 win seasons is slim....as it is for every coach

so, bang on miles, eventually you'll be able to say, "see, i told you so"

Uf under Meyer had a 5 loss season, look at OU under Stoops when he was some qb issues, Mack had trouble winning the big game, Tressel was on the hot seat a few weeks back, Carrol leads the most underproducing team in the country

meanwhile Miles has LSU (likely) to go 17-7, ranked in the top 8 in the BCS after a HORRIBLE qb situation.

Miles is a top 20 coach with top 5-10 talent....every year. You always need luck to win titles (no matter who you are) and he'll catch some luck every now and then LSU will compete for nat'l tiles. When he doesn't, I'll take 9/10 win seasons with the occasional down year when things fall apart with 7 wins.

Agreed. But I think the Miles bashers feel like they need to be right about something in their pathetic lives, so I just ignore them most of the time - you don't want to be the one who adds the straw that breaks the camel's back on these guys.

4 of 5 years with 10 or more wins. How can anybody complain about that?

I suppose some fans would like to see a top 5-10 coach with this top 5-10 talent. Esp since Miles is paid like a top 1-5 coach.

All of those coaches (and Meyer) have performed consistently for many years without a 5-loss season (unless Stoops had one in 2005).

If he has top 5-10 talent every year, he should finish in the top 5-10 every year.

National titles, maybe, but division and SEC titles are within reasonable reach if a coach builds a strong enough program. To lose the division by more than 2 games two years in a row is a pretty weak showing.

Urban Meyer has won the SEC East three out of the last four years and is going for the national title for the third time in that period. Is he just lucky? Pete Carroll, for all the lack of actually winning a national title since 2004, has at least been in the thick of the race until the end most of the time, and has not lost more than 2 games in a season since 2002. Saban has Alabama a cinch to go 12-0 in the regular season for the 2nd straight year.

If those coaches can do it, why can't Miles?

Miles gets paid a LOT of money. Don't feel too sorry for him.

Cannot agree with the original posting more - in this day and age - repetitive 9-10 or 10-11 win seasons are a rarity. A BCS bowl opportunity every couple or three years in this conference and we ought to run naked down 3rd street.

Tressel has NEVER been on the hot seat at OSU. His job has never been in jeopardy.

If you mean he was under fire from fans, then yeah. He still is, a little, in all honesty, based on some decisions related to the coaching staff/play calling.

Good Post! Miles is a class guy. He did the right thing with Perriloux and has paid for it every since. Any reasonable fan should be able to put that in perspective. Did i say reasonable fan?

I am not a Miles basher, but I think he like all these coaches should be held accountable. They and their staffs are well-paid, especially compared to the rest of the faculty and staff. They are not tenured and are expected to produce regularly.

I am, in fact, a Miles supporter, but I am not a dead-ender.

Coaches are an investment in a college program and one should remember that past results are no guarantee of future performance. Sometimes these coaches are like corporate executives who keep getting raises while the business loses money.
