I like a cheep diner breakfast also. But, I can't get eggs benidict at a diner without the eggs coming out completely cooked. A great breakfast place will cook my eggs really runny, and I am willing to pay for that ability, along with real napkins, and a server with all their teeth. If an egg cost 10 cents to buy, and table service, and napkins, and happy servers, and all the other things that make the more expensive breakfast places the way I like them more expensive; then so be it. It's my dollar to enjoy.

I very much agree with this.
Of course breakfast is supposed to be cheap, but there is a difference in going somewhere and just getting eggs, bacon, and toast and paying $5 vs going somewhere and getting something better and paying more.
For the guy quoting $30 for breakfast at the Broken Egg, you must be eating for three people. I can get out of there with a damn fine meal for well under $20 after tip.
I don't get to eat breakfast in the city much these days, but I had the chance last Sunday and struck out at three places on a Sunday. Huevos had 15 people waiting for the small number of tables when I got there.
Russells Marina Grill(my usual spot when I go) had a line out the door. The Point or whatever it is called across the street seemed like it was going to work, but after standing by the hostess area for 15 minutes while I watched 2 people crazily try to service all of the tables, I gave up on that too.
