I don't think they really allocate any scholarships to that program. Hard to compete when it's a club-level talent pool.

Can't dump many, if any, scholarships into distance runners in SEC and expect to score a bunch of points w/ likes of Ark, Ala, and Aub. To much risk and not enough reward. Sprinters are our lot in the spring. Multiple events vs. distance runners (1 or 2) and we have sprint talent in the state South without having to go oversees (excluding the islands). We get best sprinters in the country interested. Best U.S. distance runners would put us around 48th on their list. Cross-country is another victim of Title IX.

It's a shame. There are, and have been, some great distance runners in the Baton Rouge area.

Bingo. Mark was a great runner while at LSU, but his only role at LSU is to bring in the Jamaican sprinters. Every once in a while they try to bring in a foreign 800M runner that could potentially run cross country, but they will not go out an recruit a high profile American distance runner, or even give a scholarship to one.

With the facilities they have (Highland Road Park?), there is no excuse for losing.

Tell them that Patrick Peterson will hang with them for a day if they run certain times.
