I'm surprised at the number (127 rush yards allowed per game). Our inability to get sacks is hurting our rush defense ranks. We have 9 sacks (4 vs. Aub) for 65 yards lost. Ranks 99th in the country in sack defense. Compared to our next significant opponent - they have 23 sacks and 174 yards lost.

Getting sacks not only delete rushing yards, but they put the offense in passing situations. Spiral effect.

Bottom line: we need to put John Parker McElroy on his tail. Can someone please get the word to Les and company?

2. Florida 7 225 662 2.9 2 94.6
3. Tennessee 7 227 797 3.5 4 113.9

5. Georgia 7 246 891 3.6 5 127.3
6. Ole Miss 7 248 932 3.8 5 133.1
7. Miss. State 8 304 1138 3.7 12 142.2
8. South Carolina 8 297 1181 4.0 7 147.6
9. Arkansas 7 276 1083 3.9 9 154.7
10. Vanderbilt 8 336 1313 3.9 7 164.1
11. Auburn 8 313 1392 4.4 16 174.0
12. Kentucky 7 274 1219 4.4 8 174.1

Still 4th in the conference, which is all that matters. As it compares to Alabama, Tennessee is the best they've faced and they kept the ground game in check.

It's not irrelevant that our D is improving every week.

So let's see our opponents Rushing per game, against LSU, and the net difference shall we?
Team...vs LSU..Average...Difference
UW.......157....119.13....+37.87
Vandy...122....174.75....-52.75
ULL......109....155.29....-46.29
MSU.....151....203.13....-52.13
UGA......45.....108.00....-63
UF........193.....258.29....-65.29
Auburn..112....230.38....-118.38

On average LSU is holding their opponents 60 yards under their season average. Only 2 games did they not hold them 50+ yards BELOW their season average.

UW game (our first game) was the only one a team surpassed their average. Plain and simple, the defense is better than their numbers. Add in what others have mentioned about the lack of sacks, and we see the numbers we get.

Rushing defense is not something I am particularly worried about with this team.

It's amazing how consistent our defense has been in the rushing defense department. Yes, they only held one opponent below 100 yards, but we've faced some pretty good rushing teams. All average over 100 yards a game, and only two average less than 150 yards/game out of 7 teams.

Our numbers are a little high partly as someone else stated that we aren't getting sacks like we used to. It's improving now as I think coming out of the bye week, LSU's defense seems more aggressive, especially in playcalling.

Hopefully it will prove to be a strength when playing Bama, Arky, and Ole Miss.

I like those stats, but it doesn't change the point of my post. More sacks is a must. and we're behind the curve. Maybe we figured something out against Auburn...

We are #32 in rush defense YPC, and #3 in the SEC.

Right next to Tiger Stadium is this big building which is comprised of lots of offices and stuff. Why don't you mosey on over there...announce your arrival to the folks at the front desk...and when they buzz you through to 'the mans' office you can explain to him what he and Chavis have so obviously missed...after you have successfuly removed 'the mans' foot from your arse you will then be able to return to your cave.

Those stats are from entire season.
We are not the same defense now, that we were then.
Irrelevent distinction.

Because we didn't play as dominant on offense as many people think. After watching the offense for the first 6 games, it's easy to understand why we're high-fiving each other over 31 points. But that doesn't mean it moved the needle much.
