There was a post last week about babies being the death knell for a tv show. People say that all the time. I listed some examples, but in the end none of them were good shows when the baby arrived.

Mad about you was the only one I could really point to the baby, but even that show went downhill the season before.

Everyone was agreeing that babies killed shows, but when I asked people to name examples of shows with babies that killed the show, NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON gave an example.

First off, The Office is not a sexy high heat show. It is a comedy. It is not like the average Joe watches the show for the Pam Jim romance. Maybe a few of the ladies swoon a bit here and there, but not many. It is a comedy. So the sexual tension will not be missed.

The main difference from the article you listed is that the characters in the shows mentioned broke up. Sam and Dianne & Dave and Lisa broke up. That changed the whole dynamic.

I don't see Pam and Jim breaking up at this point.

My main beef has more to do with the job promotion and the baby. They force Jim to be less fun and more Mr. Responsible.

Maybe in years to come people will talk about the baby that killed The Office.

The office hasn't been funny since Jim became responsible. It won't be the baby that killed The Office. As you said, they are already killing the Office by having Jim grow up.

They need to promote Michael to corporate and let Jim run the office for about 3 or 4 shows. Then, push both of them back down to their former positions and get the show back to the "old format."

At that point, Jim won't have to try to impress because he's already "failed" at being a boss. They also need to ditch the receptionist and move Pam back to that role.

The Office began ruining itself when it began creating long lasting story lines instead of going with the generic story lines that could change from week to week with no rhyme or reason.

Community has already replaced The Office as the funniest show on NBC.
