Why is CrowMiles obsessed...

...with running the ball to the short side of the field? I re-watched the MIss. St. game, and LSU hardly ever runs wide, but it seems like every time they do, they go to the short side of the field. I can see doing it every once in a while to keep the defense honest, but I can't for the life of me understand why you would limit someone like Trindon or Shep by giving them less space to work with. I just don't get it.

CLM said in his press release that they liked the matchup better on that side of the field.

OH, so that's why it was so successful!

That's why you are on a message board and they are coaching football games at LSU.

Oh, you're right. I can't have an opinion on multiple failed plays because I'm not on the coaching staff. Thanks. Better shut down the Rant if that's the case.

Hey, that's just what he said. Per dandydon:
On his decision to run the ball to the short side of the field the majority of the time Saturday...
“One of the things that their defense did was that they overloaded, in my opinion, and played some of their best personnel to the field, so the opportunity to go and take advantage of some guys that we felt we had some mismatches against were to the boundary. Some of our calls were put just that way.”

the problem coach is the boundary is better than any personnel mismatches..
Take to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I know that's what Miles said. It's not directed at you. It just doesn't make any sense, that's all. Especially on the option. On one play, Jefferson pitches to Kieland on the option, and by the time Keiland catches the pitch, he's practically out of bounds. No room to work.

Sounds like they outcoached us. I don't care if they have an extra guy on the wideside or not, if you rush for 31 yards in a game, then your brilliant plan of running exclusively into the boundary is not working.

Good work. You found two examples of when it worked. Pat yourself on the back. Now go and find when it worked against MSU.
I never said it was always a bad idea, just that it rarely works. Again, it's good to keep the defense honest, but it's not working this year, and we shouldn't be doing it every time we run wide.

If you run to the short side of the field and the running back gets a cut back lane the pursuit of the defense will leave the opportunity for a big play via the run.

Its about EXECUTION! What running plays besides giving the ball to #10 have really worked this year?!? To bitch about something that is pretty common in football just shows your low football IQ!!

OK, ok. My nickname failed. I can accept that. Just seems like we have two OC's, kind of like we had two DC's last year.

He is running where the defense is not stacked, which is the right thing to do, except in my opinion however, in the case of Holliday. I think he needs to always run to the wide side. He is not effective at all to the short side, no matter what.
