That was because someone touched the ball.
A blocked field goal or punt results in a change of possession, as long as the team kicking does not recover the ball for a first down.

I'm pretty sure that the rule is: if the defending team touches the ball after it is blocked, then the ball is live. Otherwise, it's a dead ball and the other team takes posession.
