I don't know if it was mentioned, but on the long plays broken on the right side Hawkins was getting blocked 30-40 yards down field and couldn't get off the block to make a stop. It looked as if he were able to get off a block that would have eliminated some huge gains. He and Alem were pretty dissapointing in run support. Lets hope they get themselves corrected before the next game, elsewise they may have to be moved to situational passing down players

That's the thing I used to love about old nicky. He coached the db's and always had them getting off blocks to make tackles. Jai and Chris both seem to be just absorbed by blockers and couldnt get off them. How can you be a start for LSU and not be able to get by a WR block. We should have pride and heritage with our dbs. Webster, Daniels, Gay. Those guys came up and got off blocks and made tackles. Hell even Zenon came up and made stops.

It was dissapointing. I was o'k with the play calling for the most part on defense, the guys were in position for the most part, but just needed to make plays

Hawkins had the same problem last year, if memory serves. He gets locked up and stays there.

That's what generally happens when you're being mugged and it's not called.

I remember ESPN doing a segment on how he "coached up the players" just before the 2003 game against UO(OU). He was showing them how to punch their way out of it and get the WR off balance, then roll off the block.

Hawkins was soft, I predict he'll loose his jog by game 3.

this is not a whine, but it looked like either the UW wide-outs have discoverd a new and superior blocking technique or they were holding like hell. now, it's difficult to see on TV because the camera doesn't catch enough of a wide angle view (esp that camera crew-they were awful), but there were a handful of plays that i most definately saw what i would generously call "lingering blocks" by their wide-outs. the refs (pac-10 guys) allowed this to go on. my opinion is if they were allowing it, we should have been doing it to.

Hawkins is the weakest link in the defense, along with a slow-to-get-going Dline.

He is a Sr, so you know what that means.

I would love to know Chavis and Cooper's real preferences to start at the DB positions.

I find it very hard to believe that they have free reign and that Mile's perference to loyal upper classmen does not have something to do with their blindness of Hawkins big weaknesses.

Its like Hawkins lacks instincts and knowledge of how to stay in position.

its tough for me to be disappointed in hawkins when I didn't really have high expectations for him in the first player

hopefully mo claiborne takes his job from him

He was disappointing all year last year except for maybe one game. I still don't know why he is even the starter.
