It's interesting. In the Palo Alto area there are a lot of small businesses that glom off the "Stanford" name - Stanford Auto Repair and Stanford Carpeting & Flooring come immediately to mind. Within the past two years or so both of those companies changed their name. I assume the real Stanford has started to come down on these unauthorized uses.

The university sued Sir Allen for claiming to be a direct descendant of Leland Stanford and also turned down a substantial donation from him. I feel sorry for all those Exxon folks who lost their life's savings. Justice may never be served.
