I say ZVR will be a Tiger. Check the link below. The "slot" money for a 6th round pick isn't that high in the scheme of things. In fact, the highest bonus on either side of the 175th overall pick (where ZVR was drafted), and for any 6th round pick to have signed so far is only $150,000. And 21 of the 30 6th round picks have already signed. The highest for any 5th rounder was only $200,000. That's no where close to the kind of money that's been reported ZVR is looking to get.

Unless a kid is just dying to start down the long hard road of playing professional baseball (i.e., toiling in the minors for next to nothing over the next few years), or really doesn't have other options such as college, that's really not huge amount of money. Especially for someone who could greatly improve his draft stock with a solid college career over the next 3 years.

Edit: Interesting, I just noticed that the Pirates paid $350,000 to sign a pitcher in the 7th round, by far the highest signing bonus for anyone below the 3rd round. So apparently the Pirates were willing to pay above market to keep a kid from going to AZ in spite of where he was drafted. Will the Pirates go way above slot money for a 6th rounder too? I still think ZVR will be a Tiger.
