My son is only a couple days younger than yours, and I took him to one baseball game this year and he spent most of the time fighting with his mom and I trying to leave the aisle until he fell asleep in the 6th inning, so I can't speak for you and your son, but my son is no where's near ready for Tiger Stadium. 
I'm going to give him another year or so and try a baseball game again to test him out.

thanks a bunch for the info. We'll see how things work out. He'll definitely be tailgating with me. He came all last year and loved it. The only reason I'm even considering it is cuz he does so well at the baseball games. Maybe this year we'll stick to going see Mike and watching the band march down the hill.
