Dave Chappelle

Dude was in a cult classic, and then completed 33 episodes of a show before going awol. Don't get me wrong, dude has had his share of funny moments...

but the pedestal he is put upon is undeserved, imo.

Sketch comedy shows are largely written by numerous writers, so the show has very little to do with how funny Chappelle is as a comedian.

Killin' Them Softy is a great example of how good is stand up is. Watch the Youtube video of his unplanned performance at Kojo comedy club in London to see how well he improvises. If anything, he's an underrated comedian.

Yeah that's a great stand up, but Dave can adjust to any crowd. I can't find the link right now; but there's stand up where he's in Denver, or something like that (nothing but white people), and he plays to the crowd brilliantly. I've never seen a comedian who could engage such a diverse group of people the way he did.

The show is why I feel he gets so much praise; so, to say it is compiled by numerous writers is even more reason for him to be overrated.

If you judge him by his stand up alone, he is underrated. But the problem is he gets so much love for the TV show. I'm willing to bet there is a large majority out there who also haven't seen the unplanned Kojo performance (thanks for pointing me to this).

TV / movie Chappelle = overrated
Stand up Dave = underrated

The thread topic is "Overrated Rated Comedians" and the OP says it is inspired by the overrated actor thread. So, I would think movie or stand up would be appropriate.

So on that note, I have a strong dislike for Jack Black's work as well. I just don't find him funny, especially not his wild and crazy lyrical work he constantly does.
