It doesn't matter, but it definitely hit him!

It wasn't close to the batter. If you actually paid attention to the game you could see the gap between the batter and the ball was around 4-5 inches away from the batter. Either way, it was a terrible pitch

Unfortunately I had a football game during the beginning of the baseball game, and this very play was what I was greeted to when I started my car.

Just seems weird that one person says it definitely hit him and one person says it missed him by 4".

From the pitchers view it looked like it hit him because the ball changed directions when it hit the mitt

Then from the umps view the ball disappeared from sight and brushed by the batter (appearing to barely make contact with the shirt) and it definitely hit the mitt.

It was a close call that could have gone either way. For anyone to suggest that it was really obvious either way is crazy. No way it missed him by 4 inches.

I thought it hit him but couldnt understand why he wouldnt get help from the field umpire who may have had a better view than him since the pitch was behind the batter.
