Is the general consensus that Ott is going to be a career closer or is there anyone thinking Ott may crack the starting rotation next year?

I would say yes, but you saw what happened the last time Ott went for more than 2 IP. I think he might be solved by the 4th inning of games and he leaves a lot of breaking stuff up.

That said, he deserves a shot. He's got great stuff and in college baseball - as we have found - the closer's role will never outweight having 2 solid starters. Coleman has shown us that. So, if we have an injury bug next season in the rotation (and that happens often at LSU if you think about it), he is likely to get a shot at a Sunday starting role...possibly even a combo role with a guy like Matulis or Aslup.

i would be midly surprised if he stayed a closer his entire career. not out of the realm of possibility though.

Ott may make the same type transition to starter as Coleman did...could be a jack of all trades until we realize he's more important as a weekend starter. But it sure is nice to know if you have a lead going into the 8th of a big game...with a rested Ott in the pen..you are very likely to come out with a W.
