Courtside does not mean on the court. But I would expect you to blame a kid.

Right. The seats are courtside, meaing "adjoining the official playing area of a court." Thus, the kid IN FRONT OF HIS SEATS is no longer where the seats are, but is in the area adjoining the seats, aka -- "the court."
