Saban tries to sway Phelon Jones, gets denied (Jan20)
The Huntsville Times writes that Alabama head coach Nick Saban visited Phelon Jones at McGill-Toolen last Tuesday and "put a big move" on him trying to get the ESPN 150 prospect to reconsider his commitment to LSU, but was unsuccessful.
Jones' father Tony revealed Saban's recruiting strategy with his son saying, "Saban's sales pitch is, 'Look I'm the head coach and I also coach the secondary. Where are you going to find that in America? I coach it for a reason, because I'm the best there is at it. I turned the program around at Michigan State and LSU and I have more to work with at Alabama.'"
Tony continued, "We enjoyed talking with him. He's a great guy, but he's a little overconfident."
Jones was previously committed to Miami-FL before switching to LSU after a visit to Baton Rouge last month.
