We scored 6 runs, it's a pretty average number of runs, then we ran into some pretty good pitching the last few innings. It's very explainable.

Sometimes the always positive, there's nothing to worry about group thinks that a great team is allowed to take games off in the middle of the week. However...

Most of the time when good teams lose mid-week games to inferior opponents it's because their own mid-week pitching is not getting it done. However, this LSU team has failed to put up big numbers in mid week games against other teams mid-week pitching also. Nicholls didn't throw their ace, SLU didn't throw their ace, Harvard was giving up about 15 runs a game and LSU scored 4. Even Grambling and Southern didn't allow LSU to pad their stats. I don't know if it's focus, or just plain poor hitting but it's a great thing that Blake Dean is now hitting because about 6 of the guys in the lineup are not.

We're getting to that point in the season where we need to start playing better. The big change in the lineup tells me Mainieri is worried about this team.

Only 4 weeks away from postseason. It's time to get going.
