prompted by a thread in another forum, do you regret drafting reggie, and if so, who would you have drafted? Please no responses like not this again, +1, insert frown here. Just trying to have a discussion.

I think Reggie still has time to prove himself if he can stay healthy. I don't regret it, but a Mario Williams is what we need now, so...

reggie picked up many yard and scored many TDs i think he is great addition to the team...the bigger question is, Is he worth that much money?

Hindsight says...

5 A.J. Hawk
19 Antonio Cromartie
27 DeAngelo Williams
30 Joseph Addai
45 LenDale White
48 Cedric Griffin
57 Devin Hester
59 Jeremy Trueblood
60 Maurice Jones-Drew

But heading into that draft, Cromartie, Addai, White, Griffin or Hester were on my personal radar. It was obvious in college how Reggie would project to the NFL.

pick wouldn't have made sense when you have 2 former 1st round de ends on the roster. Reggie was the best pick.

I regretted it the day we drafted him, FWIW.

I never thought he would be able to run the ball effectively in the NFL.

So far, I am right, but I DEFINITELY hope that I'm wrong after this season.

Of course we never know the scenarios available, but I would have tried to trade down. Who knows, maybe we did and couldn't strike a deal.

Don't regret it at all. He is what he is. A versatile player who can take it to the house anytime he touches it.

DeMeco Ryans or Cromartie, in retrospect

Not really.

On the offensive side of the ball, Pierre Thomas averaged WAY more TDs per touch than Reggie.

Not to mention, Bush's big playmaking on offense in his 1st 3 years has been really lacking.

I'm sure that most would agree that to trade down and be able to get D. Ryans and D. Hester or another running back would have probably been best long term. The Titans, Cardinals and several other teams are thinking the same thing, I guess. What's done is done.

they should have traded with the jets who wanted reggie bad, and could have gotten ALOT for him

i'll say the same thing now as i said on draft day

drafting reggie probably wasn't the best on field football move

but for a team who was returning home after a year away, didn't know where it was going to basically be playing football in a few years, had a fanbase with little excitement and no playmakers, they HAD to draft reggie

it was easier to be the franchise who drafted reggie and missed, then not draft him and be the Portland Trailblazers of the NFL who took Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan

reggie was guarnanteed TV games, guaranteed jersey sales, guaranteed excitement. the fans base wanted him, the media wanted him and it seemed alot of other GM's wanted him (not all, and maybe not most, but alot)

at that time the saints COULD NOT AFFORD to draft anyone else, even if it was in the best interest in wins and losses

for w's and l's it would have been better off to trade down to 4 with the jets, take AJ hawk and pick up an extra 2 in 06 draft or an extra 1 in 07 drafted, BUT had they done that...the saints may already be playing in san antonio

Bush led the league in TD's last year before the injury.

I regret that the Saint's don't play him as our slot receiver.

I don't regret the pick one bit. He helps the saints win, puts people in the seats and gets us national attention.

Why should I regret any of that? Just becuase he cant convert a 3rd and 3 by running it straight up the gut? Please

that's not his style anyways runnin it straight up the gut, hopefully Payton will stop that stupid shite this year and give it to someone like Wells or Rashad Jennings that are more conducive for that.

He is not a everydown back. If the Saints use him correctly as they did in the NFC Champ year then he is explosive. I don't regret it at all. I regret that the Saints coaches are not the smartest cookies in the jar and need to learn how to utilize players.

Absolutely not!!! We would have never been as good in 2006 without Reggie. He scares other teams because he is so dynamic. He was on his way to having a phenomenal season last year if not for injuries.

He will be great next year and suprise all those retards who say he is a bust.

Yeah, I say he breaks out big next season. A guys whose head is a swollen as his will eventually get sick of people saying how big of a disappointment he is.

Absolutely no regrets drafting him. He's a good player, and he has helped the team return to relevance again. Reggie Bush is not the problem with this team. The Saints' offense is NUMBER ONE in the NFL.

The problem is on defense.

Duh.
