I gotta go with the 1999 Evangel squad with Brock Berlin and company. They won the national title/state and steamrolled over teams in the process to get there. They were just nasty.

I will go out on a limb and say that that was probably not the best high school team ever assembled.

One of the De La Salle teams. Take your pick of any of them or Miami Northwestern from last year. In terms of college talent, how about the Mater Dei team with Leinart starting and Colt Brennan as the backup

Ruston of 1990. had a ridiculous number of D1 signees and finished either 1 or 2 in the country. beat catholic in the dome 52-10. id have to say they are up there as one of the best high school teams ever in Louisiana.

How about Pittsburgh Central, that had Dan Marino, Tony Dorsett, Ricky Jackson, Hugh Green, Matt Cavanaugh, and Larry Fitzgerald all on the same team?

They were not better than the 98 WM or 90 Ruston teams. Even Evangel supporters will tell you that the 98 Evangel team with Richard Smith was better. I thought 99 Evangel would be the best until I saw them in the Dome. WM lost everyone from the 98 team. I think 2-3 starters returned, at the most. Tramissian Davis, WM's all state running back who played WR at Tech and was on the Saints roster for a while, tore his ACL in the semifinals against Ruston. WM started a sophomore who admitted in the paper before the game that he was scared to be playing in such a big game. Anyway, that WM team was considered by everyone in WM to be the weakest team in a 6 year span. WM lead that entire game. The great Evangel offense scored twice on broken plays where Berlin just threw it up and 6'5" Brent Rawls outjumped 5'8" Corey Brazil in the endzone. Evangel took the lead for the first time with 2 minutes left and only won 20-14. That 90 Ruston team would've beaten them easily and the 98 WM team would've done the same.

As far as the greatest ever in America...Who the frick knows? Waaaaaaaaaay too many teams for any one person to truly be able to tell you. Miami Northwestern, DLS, Long Beach Poly, Ruston, and WM have all had teams with double digit D1 signees.

Some of the Odessa Permian teams from the 80's have to be up there somewhere.
